Melissa Peterman, a famous household name in the US for she has been an actress, comedian, host  in the American Television industry for more than two decades now with over a 30 TV shows and sitcoms under her belt. Melissa had  played a number of roles some of her most note-worthy work include Reba, Fargo, Here Comes The Boom, How High.

She is not only popular for her role as Barbra Jean Booker Hart on the early 2000s sitcom Reba, she made heads turn with her impressive weight loss towards the end of 2006 after delivering her first child. The tall and not so slim actress had gained quite a lot of weight post-partum and underwent a massive transformation losing close to 60 pounds.

She looked stunning in her new avatar and made the audience fall much more in love with her, not to mention inspiring many others to lose their body weight while at it.

Melissa’s figure pre-weight loss

Melissa Peterman was not your typical skinny Caucasian that we see on these sitcoms, Melissa happened to be on the slightly chubbier side bringing about her adorable self. Melissa has mentioned in her interview that being almost 6 feet and that even at her smallest size she had “looked like a football player”.  

Melissa had said in an interview: “I’ve been very lucky that I’ve been on TV, and I’ve been a lot of different sizes and ages. I’ve been pregnant and fake pregnant. I’ve been at a point where I felt healthy and like how I looked…and there’s been times where I haven’t.

I have been really lucky that I’ve never not worked or been told I have to change what I look like to be on TV”. She hasn’t shied away from having looked that way and in fact carried it with utmost grace and we loved her for it.

Melissa Peterman’s weight loss

Melissa Peterman has claimed to not have undergone any weight loss surgery and diet pills like how the rest of the industry is believed to have lost weight most times but rather through religious dieting and exercise, let’s see how that worked for Melissa:

Melissa had hired a personal trainer post-delivery and had a meticulously planned diet and exercise routine.

In her interview with Self, she had mentioned how hard it was for her to follow her diet and fitness routine and how she had slowly adapted to it. She had mentioned in one of her interview about how she grew up watching her mum cook and had always believed in healthy eating.

She further adds on to say that having a husband who loves to experiment with food made the whole eating right journey a lot more fun and easier to adapt to.

Melissa states that on a typical day her morning meal includes an egg white omelette with a side of spinach picked form her own garden and turkey bacon along with a fruit smoothie. She picks up an apple on the way to her son’s school which is believed to have antioxidant properties and helps keep in shape.

On some days she just makes do with some Cottage cheese which are high in protein and low on carbs and fat, which she spices up with a pinch of cinnamon at times.

Her lunch often includes a lentil soup with tomatoes and cheese, any wholegrain meal, apple with peanut butter for snack and a vegan dish for dinner.

Melissa Peterman’s fitness routine

One couldn’t have possibly lost 60 pounds just by dieting, Melissa did switch up her exercise routine to lose weight and to strengthen her core.

Though not publicly revealed Melissa is believed to have followed a routine which was a mix of cardio, bodyweight exercises and strength training. 

It was also speculated that the 49 year old television star had undertaken the famous HIIT routine ( High Intensity Interval Training) which consists of short bursts of high intensity training altered with low intensity recovery periods which she practiced regularly with her personal trainer according to certain sources.

In addition to her fitness routine, Melissa also led a pretty active lifestyle walking her dogs, chaperoning her son in field trips being a super-active mom.

Melissa Peterman’s tips towards weight loss:

  1. Make sure to never miss out on the most important meal of the day, your breakfast, make sure to at least grab a fruit for breakfast.
  2. Get your 8 hours of sleep, even if it means having to take a quick nap in the afternoon, the body needs it’s time to reset and recharge.
  3. Do make sure to follow the workout routine diligently. Never miss out on work outs, go according to your schedule, and get into a comfortable routine.
  4. Eating healthy play a major role in weight loss journey, you are what you eat, so make sure you eat the right way. Melissa had a high-protein, low carb diet.
  5. Hydrate yourself.
  6. Always consult your physician before starting on any fitness or weight loss routines.
